The Test of the Power of Tomorrow is a scientific research conducted by Translink between 2005 and 2006, as Translink takes a prominent step in leading the North American transit industry in search for a reliable and cost-effective source of alternative fuel energy. Using standard clean diesel as the "baseline" standard, the cost and mileage of alternative fuel technologies such as biodiesel (mixture of organic substance into diesel to produce energy), compressed natural gas, compressed natural gas mixed with hydrogen, parallel and series diesel-electric hybrid drives, and burning of diesel with the use of particular filters, were tested as records were gradually recorded; ultimately, each set of analyzed data were compared and contrasted through the compilation of a report published in 2007.
