In early December of 2016, the extension of Translink's SkyTrain to Coquitlam (dubbed the "Evergreen Extension") was opened for service. Among the bus service changes scheduled to take effect as a result of the new line being operational was the complete cancellation of the route 97 B-Line between Coquitlam and Lougheed Station.

So, in the early hours of the morning of December 19, 2016 (though the service day was still the 18th), the 97 B-Line quietly became the second B-Line route to be relegated to the history books, after the 98 was cancelled in 2009 following the opening of the Canada Line.
